Getting Started
What is Madlen?
Madlen is an AI teaching assistant for UK primary and secondary teachers. It helps you plan lessons, create National Curriculum-aligned resources and exam-style questions for AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC specifications, and mark pupils' work. Madlen UK is teacher-only, meets UK GDPR and the DfE's generative AI product safety expectations, and has a free plan to start.
How do I sign up for Madlen?
To get started, click the Get started for free button and sign in with your Google account.
How much does Madlen cost?
Madlen has a free plan for individual teachers that includes lesson planning and the question generator. Paid plans start at £11.99 a month and add tools such as Essay Marker and Paper Marker. See every plan on our pricing page. Schools can book a meeting with our team to set up staff accounts and get a quote.

Responsible AI
Which AI models does Madlen use?
We combine industry-leading AI models. These models never interact directly with teachers or pupils. Before any response reaches the classroom, it passes through Madlen's own layer, trained for teaching and filtered for safety and pedagogical suitability.
Is pupil data safe?
Madlen UK is teacher-only, so there are no pupil logins and no pupil records are held on the platform. The content you create is never shared with third parties, sold, or used to train AI models. Read our Privacy Policy →
Which regulations does Madlen comply with?
The platform meets UK GDPR and EU GDPR requirements, and aligns with the Department for Education's expectations for the safe, responsible use of generative AI in schools. All of our tools run on Infercom, Europe's first sovereign AI infrastructure provider. This means data is processed on servers in Germany, within EU borders, and is never transferred to the US. The infrastructure is certified to the ISO 27001:2022 standard. For international school partnerships, we also follow each country's local regulations. What happens if the AI produces inappropriate content in materials I create?
Madlen's filtering layers automatically block inappropriate output. School leaders can review every interaction on the platform afterwards. We update our content policies regularly to keep everything classroom-appropriate. To see how Madlen is used in real classrooms, take a look at our Case Studies page.
How is Madlen different from using ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is a general-purpose chatbot. Madlen is built for teachers. It creates resources aligned to the National Curriculum and to GCSE and A-Level specifications, offers more than 50 ready-made teacher tools, and keeps no pupil records. Behind the scenes Madlen runs on industry-leading AI models, and every response passes through Madlen's own layer, trained for teaching and filtered for safety and classroom suitability, before it reaches you. Your content is never used to train AI models.
Does Madlen meet the DfE's generative AI product safety expectations?
Yes. Madlen is built to meet all 13 of the Department for Education's generative AI product safety standards, covering areas such as filtering, monitoring, security and data protection. Our Trust and Compliance Centre explains how we meet each one.
Lesson Planning & Content Creation
How can I edit my lesson plans?
You can view the lesson plans you've created under the Lesson Planning tab and update their content however you like.
How do I use the content creation tools?
Madlen's Toolbox has more than 50 tools. From worksheets and podcasts to dialogues and interactive materials, there's a tool for every stage of the lesson. You can take the output of one tool and refine it in another, reshaping content to match your own class's level.
Integrations
Which platforms does Madlen integrate with?
Madlen works with Google Workspace for Education (Google Classroom, Drive and Meet) and Microsoft 365 (Teams and Office), the tools UK schools already use. Contact our team for MAT and multi-school rollout options.
Can I connect Madlen to our school's MIS or LMS?
Yes. To connect Madlen to your existing MIS or LMS, email our team at hello@madlen.io. Integration requests from schools and trusts are prioritised.
Assessment & Marking
What question types can I use in assessments?
Madlen supports a range of question types, including multiple choice, open-ended, true/false, gap-fill and matching. You can also generate application questions that ask pupils to use what they know in an unfamiliar context, as AO2 questions do at GCSE. If you want to work with the National Curriculum, the alignment mode links each question to the relevant learning objective, so you can see at a glance which question measures which objective and balance your assessment against the curriculum.
How do I set AI-resistant homework?
With the AI-Resistant Homework tool, you can set homework that relies on pupils' own observation and evidence, so a chatbot cannot complete it for them.
Support & Contact
Where can I report technical issues or send suggestions for Madlen?
For any technical support, questions, or feedback, you can reach our team at hello@madlen.io. We'll get back to you as soon as we can.
For Teachers
Does Madlen work with GCSE specifications?
Yes. Madlen generates exam-style questions aligned to AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC specifications, with the right command words, AO tagging and levels-of-response mark schemes, from KS3 through GCSE and A-Level.
Do you support international curricula such as IB, AP and Cambridge?
Yes, Madlen fully supports international educational frameworks such as IB (PYP, MYP, DP), AP, and Cambridge (IGCSE, A-Level). Teachers can choose these frameworks directly when planning lessons or building question banks.
How can I export the generated content?
You can copy the outputs directly to your clipboard, print them, or download them as PDF or DOCX files.
Is there any cost to get started?
Creating a teacher profile and using our core assistant features is completely free. School and trust plans are available by quote.
For Schools & Trusts
Is any pupil personal data processed on Madlen?
Madlen UK has no pupil accounts and holds no pupil records. If a teacher pastes in pupil work, it is processed on the school's behalf under UK GDPR, and we ask teachers to leave out names and other identifying details.
How do you ensure GDPR and data protection compliance?
All data centre partners are ISO 27001 certified. Information is stored securely and in line with data protection law.
Does Madlen use our content to train AI models?
No. None of the content, materials or documents your school generates is ever used to train general AI models.
Can Madlen integrate with our existing school systems (LMS, SSO)?
Yes. Madlen supports direct integration with Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, or existing school portals using secure Single Sign-On (SSO).
How do schools get started?

Is training and ongoing support available for our teachers?
Yes. We offer interactive AI pedagogy workshops, hands-on training sessions and year-round technical and pedagogical support.
